Bon Apptit with Arlene - Nov 2007Coras Breakfast & Lunch If breakfast means comfort food to you and your family, then Coras has what youre looking for. While waiting, we had plenty of opportunity to check out the open kitchen area near the entrance and watch the cooks prepare the continuous supply of orders with Coras secret ingredient: lots of care and loving attention. Cheery, country-colourful drawings of menu items adorn brightly coloured walls. Designed by Cora herself, the graphics promise lots of fun under her trademark sun. Coras six-page visually-appealing menu offers 110 items giving the breakfast lover an incredible amount of choice. I was grateful for the colour photos and detailed descriptions that made it easier to navigate the delicious choices with their catchy names (another example of Coras commitment to making our experience fun and friendly). There are eight omelettes to choose from ($8.35 - $9.55). If youre counting carbs, try Theos Eggs in a Skillet au gratin ($9.95), a broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, green peppers, tomatoes, onions, green onions, mushrooms, spinach and cheddar skillet served with an egg and fresh fruit. The 1990s Harvest ($9.95) is a large cinnamon-raisin brioche dipped in French toast batter with an egg and bacon on one side and a mountain of fresh fruit on the otherhow yummy is that! The Samira Wake Up ($9.95) is a beautiful plate of lavishly cut fresh fruit served with a choice of toast. I chose one of the three Eggs Ben et Dictine offeringsAsparagus and Swiss Cheese ($11.45): Two perfectly poached eggs topped a lightly-toasted English muffin and the artistically arranged heap of fresh fruit was an example of the time Coras takes to please her customers palates. I found the Hollandaise a little salty, but not bad considering its made in Montreal and shipped out to the franchises. The roasted potatoes were well cooked, but I would have preferred fresh cut potatoes. My guest enjoyed the Raspberry 4 Lucie ($10.55), a large somewhat chewy crepe filled with a generous amount of tangy raspberries and cream cheese with raspberry coulis, honey and English cream. We shared a side order of bacon ($2.15), which was crisp and crunchy, just the way we like it. The menu includes sandwichesEgg Salad ($8.95), Tuna Melt ($9.95), Bagel & Lox ($13,45), Deluxe Burger ($10.25) and two salads. Coras is a tight family-run, family-oriented, restaurant chain founded by Cora Tsouflidou in Montreal. Cora bought a small snack bar in 1987 and introduced a new breakfast concept to the Quebec marketplace, specializing in fruit, cheese, cereal, omelettes, pancakes, and French toast. She designed her menu by listening to her customers suggestions then giving them a taste of something better. Todays 90 locations are a testament to her success. If you and your family are looking for an egg-citing breakfast adventure (I couldnt resist J), try Coras enjoy!.
