Cooking and Careers - A winning combination

New Personal Chef Diploma – coming to Hamilton!

Media Release
For Immediate Release:
Hamilton, Ontario - March 12th, 2007

According to Mia Andrews, President of The Canadian Personal Chef Association and Merline Mallette, Executive Director of Liaison College, Hamilton Campus, the hottest trend in culinary training is coming to Liaison College. The trend is delivered through a program, called Personal Chef Diploma. This is the first program of its kind and combines the skills and culinary expertise offered by Liaison College with the business teachings and know-how offered through the Canadian Personal Chef Association (CPCA)

The CPCA has long represented a local source for educating new personal chefs in the business, marketing and client service aspects of running a personal chef service. However, entrance into the CPCA course has never included culinary training.

“This is where a partnership with Liaison College makes so much sense, says Andrews. There are many people who love the idea of running their own business as a personal chef, but want to upgrade their culinary skills as part of their career path. Because of our focus on providing only business training, we’ve historically had to find a way to fill the gap. We’re thrilled that Liaison College is giving personal chefs a way to fill that gap.”

The new program at Liaison College will give students the necessary knowledge and skills required to whip up meals for hungry, time-starved clients. Beyond cooking, the program will also provide a strong foundation in business planning, marketing strategies, sales techniques and the core formulas of personal chef cooking.

An exciting part of the curriculum will be the delivery of key sessions by members of the CPCA, industry experts who are willing to share their tips and techniques with Liaison College students.

“With growing concerns on health and diet, we see an increasing demand for personal chefs that have the best training and knowledge available to the industry, said Mallette. We’re proud to be able to offer this program to our students and we look forward to bringing this new and growing trend in education to Ontario.”

The first class is scheduled for August in Hamilton and there are already students enrolled.
